56 Secure NVR
Network Video Recorder SDK for Android, iOS and web, giving apps one integration layer over NVR APIs.
3platforms: Android, iOS, web
NVRAPI integration
1SDK shared by all three apps
- Client
- 56 Secure
- Recorder partner
- Uniview Tech
- Domain
- Video security
- My role
- Lead engineer and solution architect
01
Context
- 56 Secure's base app ran on Android, iOS and the web
- All three had to work with network video recorders (NVRs)
- The recorder APIs belonged to Uniview's team in China
02
The problem
- Three apps, one deviceAndroid, iOS and web all needed the same recorder features. Building them separately in each app would mean three versions of the same logic.
- An API owned elsewhereThe recorder APIs were owned by a partner team in another country, so every open question needed coordination across teams.
03
How it works
1Apps
- Android app
- iOS app
- Web app
2SDK
- One integration layer
- Same features on every platform
3Backend
- Django service
- MySQL
4Recorders
- Network video recorders
- Recorder APIs from Uniview
04
What we built
- The NVR SDK
- One integration layer over the recorder APIs
- Built into the Android, iOS and web apps
- Solution architecture
- How the apps, the SDK and the servers fit together
- Production on AWS
- Production servers configured and run on AWS
- DevOps on those servers
- Partner coordination
- Worked directly with Uniview's team in China on the recorder APIs
05
My part
I was lead engineer and solution architect. I designed the solution architecture, configured and ran the production servers on AWS, and was the main point of contact with Uniview's team in China for the recorder APIs, while the SDK was built and integrated into the three apps with the team.
Want the detail behind the numbers - architecture, failure modes, what I’d change? Happy to walk through it.
